    Independent Schools Inspectorate Report

    The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) is the body approved by the Department for Education for the purpose of inspecting schools belonging to the Independent Schools Council (ISC) Associations and reporting on compliance with independent school regulations.

    ISI inspection is for the benefit of pupils and seeks to improve the quality and effectiveness of their education and of the care for their welfare.

    Following a visit by inspectors from the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) on 6 and 7 December 2017 to conduct a Compliance Inspection, Pocklington School Foundation has met all the required standards

    This important inspection confirms that both schools are compliant with all of the specified regulations and associated legal requirements set against the nine standards listed below, in addition to the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework:

    • Quality of education provided
    • Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils
    • Welfare, health and safety of pupils
    • Suitability of staff, supply staff and proprietors
    • Premises of and accommodation at schools
    • Provision of information
    • Manner in which complaints are handled
    • Quality of leadership in and management of schools
    • National Minimum Standards for boarding

    In this particular type of inspection, inspectors do not make judgements about the quality of educational provision or management - schools either meet or do not meet the requirements. As a result, the report cannot use qualitative descriptors such as 'excellent'.

    As part of the exercise to gather evidence, the inspectors observed lessons and extra-curricular activities, conducted discussions and interviews with staff and students, analysed responses from parent and student questionnaires and examined samples of students’ work.
