History of the House
St John’s boarding house is located adjacent to the Lyndhurst School building and formerly shared its name. It was recently renamed St John's in recognition of the links between School and St John's College, Cambridge which date back to the foundation of the school in 1514.
Accommodation
St John's is a great place to board, situated as it is right next to the two most important places in many boys’ lives: the sports fields and the dining room! The facilities are modern with most dorms comfortably accommodating 3-4 boys per room.
School and Academic Work
The boarders are happy, friendly, easy going and enjoy a good mix of work and play. All boarders enjoy an hour of homework each night supervised by a member of staff. The Housemaster and the house team give individual, regular encouragement to every pupil and liaise closely with the Head of Lower School to ensure that both work and progress are on track.
All St John’s boys also belong to a day house at school and take part in competitions such as House Drama, House Music, House Rugby, House Swimming etc.
Relaxation
Boys let off steam after school during the week with activities such as swimming, softball, football, cricket, touch rugby. Further free time might be spent playing pool, surfing the web, (appropriately filtered of course), or chilling out with mates.
Weekends are a heady mix of organised activity and active rest. Cinema, ice-skating, paintballing, skiing at the Snowdome, theme parks, go-karting and laser quest are all on the menu though not on the same day.
