Lyndhurst School - In Tune With Children
Lyndhurst has a strong musical tradition and we want
our pupils to enjoy music and music making.
All forms have timetabled music lessons in which they learn the recorder, singing and simple music composition as well as listening to music both classical and modern.
Individual music tuition takes place throughout the age range and can be arranged in most instruments. Pupils are withdrawn from lessons on a rota basis to meet their visiting instrumental teachers.
In Year 4, Lyndhurst offers all pupils the chance to learn to play an instrument and subsidises the cost of lessons and the hire of certain instruments. We hope that they will make good this opportunity to learn the pleasure of music making and will want to continue playing.
Small ensembles meet for practice at lunchtimes and the Lyndhurst orchestra plays at concerts and school events.
The Lyndhurst choir meets twice a week to practise and takes part in a number of concerts throughout the year. It has been very successful in local festivals over recent years, winning a number of trophies and awards.
The House music competition involves all pupils and, like the termly ‘drop-in’ concerts, offers a platform for singers and instrumentalists alike to share their talents and achievements with others.
