Lyndhurst School - Positive Behaviour

Positive BehaviourGood work and behaviour is rewarded by form points (or stars) for the individual and these in turn may lead to a merit, which counts towards the House trophy. House merits are displayed on the House notice boards before being presented to pupils at a House assembly. There are four Houses, named after the Yorkshire abbeys of Rievaulx, Fountains, Jervaulx and Byland, and there are House competitions in Art, Music, creative writing, chess and general knowledge, as well as sport.

A blue Distinction Card is the highest award - the school's formal recognition of positive behaviour, excellent effort, courtesy - in fact all those things we approve of. The card is presented to the Headmaster for validating with a special stamp and then the pupil keeps it. Distinctions are recorded in a Roll of Honour book and on a child's report. A list of Distinction winners is posted by the Head's office for all to see.

Other achievements are celebrated in Assembly and in the presentation of certificates or awards at the end of term. Lyndhurst's Summer Prizegiving is the highlight of the year in this regard.

Those few who disregard our Code of Conduct will find their privileges withdrawn and may receive either a White Work Card or a Yellow Conduct Card. The Yellow Card is a formal mark of disapproval, issued only by the Headmaster or Deputy and is sent home for a parental signature. It has to be returned to the Headmaster the following day. Very few of these are necessary.
