Lyndhurst School - The School Day
The school day begins at 8.30am with a registration
period that lasts ten minutes, allowing those travelling on local transport to
arrive in good time. There is a daily assembly that includes a hymn and a
prayer, reflecting the Christian values of the school but with reference to
other faiths too, as appropriate. Assembly takes a different form each day, one
being led by the chaplain of Pocklington School and others by staff, children
and visitors. Assemblies are used to reflect on the successes and achievements
of the school and its pupils - both inside and outside of school.
There are five lessons before lunch, with a mid-morning break and three lessons after lunch. All pupils eat school lunch in the purpose-built dining hall and lunch is a highlight for many of the pupils as there is such a good choice of cooked meals, pasta, curries, salads and desserts. The teachers eat at the same time, sitting amongst the children and keeping a watchful eye to see that they eat wisely and observe table manners. Following the end of the school day extra-curricular activities take place.
After School Care
We understand that busy families are not always able to collect their children at the immediate close of day. Therefore, Lyndhurst has an after school care facility that can be used on a regular or an ad-hoc basis. Pupils will be looked after and given a snack and drink. They will be encouraged to complete their homework, in the comfortable surroundings of the Library Resource Centre.
