Reception to Year 2

Lyndhurst Pre-Prep

Structure

Pupils are based in form groups which are both teaching and pastoral units. The form teacher takes primary interest in the pastoral and academic welfare of his/her pupils.

Pupils are taught in form groups for all lessons. Sometimes groups are taught at different paces within classes to ensure individual needs within a class are met.

Our maximum class size is 16.

Curriculum

The curriculum reflects the demands of the Early Years Foundation Stage as well as the new Primary School Review. The day is structured to allow for breaks in the morning and the afternoon and for lunch which is supervised.

Teaching Facilities

Teaching facilities for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are purpose designed and this group of pupils has access to their own dedicated outdoor area. They also benefit from the use of all Foundation facilities relevant to children of this age: they join older Lyndhurst pupils in Years 3-6 for some assemblies, they have access to the Tom Stoppard Theatre and campus sport facilities and the swimming pool.

Specialist music teaching is also available on site to those children whose parents wish them to have individual lessons.

At the end of Year 2 children will be tested alongside new Y3 applicants but they will automatically progress to Year 3.
