    Outside the Classroom

We provide a huge range of co-curricular activities to ensure that each child is able to find their opportunity to shine.

    Clubs and Activities

Activities vary according to age and the time of year but include art club, computer club, choir, drama, chess, dance, orchestra, science club, trampoline, cheerleading, sports coaching and eco club.

    Music

We encourage everyone to learn an instrument and enjoy the pleasure of playing with a musical ensemble, in the choir or orchestra. Prep School Choir regularly wins trophies and awards at local music festivals, is invited to sing at a variety of events and makes a significant contribution to school concerts and services. The Orchestra and various other small ensembles such as the Recorder group, Flute, Brass group and Guitar group also perform at concerts and school events. The annual House Music Competition involves all pupils and termly Mini Concerts provide a platform for singers and instrumentalists to share their talents with others.

    Drama

Drama is a great way to develop confidence and we also encourage our students to take on backstage roles should they prefer this element of the theatre. All form groups devise and present an assembly once a year to the rest of the school: parents are invited to these assemblies. Years 3 and 4 perform a play annually in the Lent term while the Year 5 and 6 production takes place in the Summer term. Both productions are staged in the Tom Stoppard Theatre and the Prep School occasionally collaborates with Pocklington School for joint productions.

    Sport

Sport plays an important role within the School because we want our students to enjoy it and keep fit! There are weekly swimming, PE and games lessons and an extensive list of sports clubs, which vary from term to term.

To help to develop a competitive edge and also a strong team spirit, from Year 3 onwards we run house competitions; school teams compete with other schools in athletics, cricket, cross-country, football, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby, swimming, tennis and trampolining.

    School Trips

Excursions play an important role in the learning experience. Children take part wholeheartedly in these days out and return filled with excitement from the experience of seeing their topic brought to life in a different setting. From Year 4 the children benefit from residential trips away which include journeys abroad to France. Trips help with the development of organisational skills, independence and personal growth, whilst allowing children to have a great time.
