Middle School - 3rd Form (Year 9) Curriculum

Structure

Middle School Houses

Pupils moving up to the Middle School from the Lower School remain in the same house, with a new housemaster or housemistress.

Pupils joining Pocklington School for the first time are allocated to one of the four houses (Dolman, Gruggen, Hutton, Wilberforce).

Girl boarders aged 13+ will join Orchard House transferring to Faircote at 14+. Boy boarders aged 13+ will join Dolman transferring to Fenwick-Smith House at 15+.

Teaching Groups

Teaching in English, French, mathematics, science and humanities is in ability based sets. Option subjects are taught in mixed ability sets.

Class size is usually not more than 20.

Options

Pupils choose 4 subjects from the following list:

Art, Design, Drama, Music, German, Latin, Spanish

Sport options include: Badminton, Biathlon, Cross country, Dance, Fencing, Football, Golf, Hockey (Boys), Horse Riding, Personal Fitness, Running, Rock Climbing, Squash, Swimming, Trampolining.

Additional Timetabled Periods are devoted to:

Assemblies/Tutor periods (1), Church (1), Activities/PHSE (2)
