Pocklington School - Sixth Form Curriculum
Pastoral Structure
The Sixth Form house structure remains as for the Middle School. Each house is divided into four tutor groups of 10-12 pupils, 2 upper sixth and 2 lower sixth. Pupils remain in the same group for their two year school career.
Academic Stucture
Where possible, sixth form teaching is by ability-based sets. In practice, the choices column structure of the Sixth Form means that many subjects are taught in small single-set groups. Where sets are in place, allocation of pupils to sets is based on GCSE performance and on internal exam results, together with school reports.
Pupils normally choose four subjects to study in the Lower Sixth. From this four they normally select three to study in the Upper Sixth. This would lead to 3 'A' level qualifications and one 'AS' (half A level) qualification.
Choices
Pupils normally choose four subjects to study in the Lower Sixth. From this four they normally select three to study in the Upper Sixth. This would lead to 3 A2 (‘full A level’) qualifications and one AS (‘half A level’) qualification.
