Pocklington School - Academic Matters

Science LessonPocklington is proud of its academic reputation and continuing examination success.

The 2009 Sixth Form leavers at Pocklington School had 70.9% of their entries graded either A or B. The overall pass rate was 99.7%. 24 candidates out of the 101 students achieved 3 A grades or higher.

96.4% of Pocklington pupils’ GCSEs were graded A* to C with every candidate achieving 5 or more A* to C grades including the more rigorous IGCSE in Mathematics which is not recognised in the DFES league tables.

Our curriculum starts in our first year with a wide range of subjects covering all academic and artistic disciplines. Pupils make option decisions at the start of the third year and final GCSE choices at the start of the fourth year. Pupils would normally do four AS subjects in the lower sixth and drop to three A levels although a number of pupils continue all four through to the end of the course. There is wide flexibility in the timetable to allow most options of subjects at this level including a number of subjects not offered at GCSE.
