Learning Support
Our Learning Support Department has an
excellent track record of helping pupils with specific learning
difficulties including dyslexia to achieve their full potential.
We aim to provide flexible and individually tailored help to
pupils according to their needs and operate a system where staff and
pupils work together to develop strategies to overcome difficulties.
All learning support pupils are monitored by
the Head of Learning Support and her staff. There are
three stages to the register:
Stage 1
Pupils on stage one or two of the register
are largely supervised by the teaching staff, who are provided with
advice and suggestions from the Learning Support Department on how to
differentiate work and get the best from dyslexic pupils.
Most of our dyslexic pupils cope extremely well without any extra
input from the department but help is always there if needed.
Stage 2
Some stage two pupils have regular extra
lessons while others prefer a ‘drop-in’ form of help
where extra
sessions are arranged if a pupil is struggling with a particular piece
of work.
Stage 3
All pupils on stage three receive one or two
extra lessons a week with a specialist dyslexia teacher. As pupils make
progress they may move from stage to stage.
Contact is always welcome from parents or staff
