Pocklington School - Library

LibraryThe School Library is situated at the heart of the School, on the ground floor at the bottom of the main staircase and corridor.  It is open from 8.30 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. Monday to Friday and 8.30 a.m. to 12.00 midday on Saturdays.  In lesson times it can be used by 6th form students for private study and teachers who bring classes in for research lessons. At all other times it is open to the whole school for research, homework or quiet reading.

We have around 11,000 books on the shelves.  Fiction accounts for just under 3,000 books, with the remainder covering all curriculum areas and a large number of general interest books. We subscribe to 3 national newspapers as well as the local weekly paper, and a large number of magazines and journals.  There are 20 networked computers for students to use for homework or research.

The Library Catalogue can be accessed from any computer including those at home and includes a comprehensive list of web sites which will be useful for homework. We also subscribe to several on-line services.

Books may be borrowed for up to two weeks, and can be renewed three times.

The Library is managed by Mrs A.J. Edwards, assisted by Mrs N Ward. Mr I.J. Andrews, Mr M.J. Davies, Mr M.P. Newhouse, Miss C.J. Postlethwaite and Mr S. Spruyt also assist during the evenings.
