Pocklington School - The Co-curriculum
At
Pocklington School we aim to develop the education of the whole person.
The hopes and aspirations of individual pupils and their talents and interests
are of central importance. We aim to provide the breadth and scope of
education through a variety of academic, recreational, cultural and community
activities which will expand and enrich our curriculum.
The rich tapestry of extra-curricular activities
on offer to every Pocklington School pupil is one of the school's greatest
assets. Through our extra-curricular programme we aim to ‘Inspire personal
achievement’, providing pupils with opportunities to develop what may become
life-long skills and interests.
It is during the daily 80 minute lunch break that
the extra-curricular programme gets into full swing. The educational
experience is greatly enhanced by the strong extra-curricular programme, which
is appreciated by parents and pupils alike and a good number of pupils
involve themselves in the range of clubs and societies. Depending upon the term,
there are up to 90 weekly clubs, societies and practices available to the
pupils. These range from subject-based clubs, such as IT Club, Junior
Science Club and The Junior History Society to more wide-ranging societies such
as French Film Society, Christian Union, Rock Climbing and Wildlife Group.
Pupils with musical and acting talents are also well-catered for at Pocklington
School. Music ensembles and drama rehearsals all take place in the lunch break
and there are numerous concerts and productions every year. Sport also
plays a central role in the activities programme with a full and varied
programme of practices ranging from Trampolining and Archery to Cricket, Tennis
and Rounders.
To acknowledge and encourage involvement in
extra-curricular activities the Pocklington Award has been launched. This is a
certificate awarded to students who demonstrate they have developed and extended
their extra-curricular involvement at Pocklington School. The three phases of
the school have their own awards, building from Bronze in the Lower School,
through Silver in the Middle school to the Gold Award in the Sixth Form.
Information regarding any aspect of Pocklington School’s extra-curricular provision can be obtained by contacting Mr Martin Kettlewell, Director of Activities.
