Pocklington Prep School pupils were out in force again last week, competing in the Prep School’s Cross-Country races at Worksop College.
We fielded teams both in the Under 11 girls and Under 11 boys’ races and finished overall in a very respectable third place in each – no mean feat when you factor in the 10 other schools taking part.
At 8 years of age, Laura Brooks was by far one of the youngest competitors in the girls’ race but this proved no barrier to her. Laura finished in an impressive 5th place, adding to this year’s collection of medals. We look forward to seeing Laura’s running progress over the coming years.
Likewise, Niamh Clements still has another year to go in the Under 11 age category. Ignoring her teacher’s advice not to sprint off from the start, Niamh led the race from the gun and never looked likely to lose it. Indeed, at one point the hare (an older pupil from Worksop running ahead to guide the runners) looked as if he would be caught. Niamh won the girls’ race in style and, like Laura, added to her impressive medal count for the season.
Well done to both girls and to the other nine runners who took part in the races.
