Fun and laughter rang out through the Pocklington School campus during this year's annual Charity Week, raising over £2000 for Peasholme Charity in York.
Despite the restrictions of operating within bubbles, the sun shone brightly, as a wide variety of charity events were held by all year groups and co-ordinated by the Sixth Form-led Charity Committee.
From the highly competitive crossbar challenge to wet sponges aimed at the teachers, a sponsored silence by Lower Sixth pupil, Joe Cheney, and some glorious cake stalls, there was plenty of opportunity for pupils to get involved and donate generously to our chosen charity this year Peasholme Charity for the Homeless who are based in York. The charity works with disadvantaged and socially excluded people, in particular those that are homeless or at risk of losing their homes.
Helen Alexander, Deputy Head of Sixth Form and in charge of Charity Committee at Pocklington School said: "It was great to see the form groups working together, coming up with ideas and solving problems 'on the hoof' - there was a real buzz around school."
The three-day extravaganza raised £1253.00 with special mentions going to 1 Wilberforce, 3 Dolman and 3 Wilberforce who all raised well over £100 each over the 3 days! Non uniform Day raised an additional £636.80, and this added to Charity Week and the Christmas Jumper appeal from Michaelmas Term, means Peasholme Charity In York will receive a donation of £2489.80.
Helen concluded: "It has been a pleasure to work with the Charity Committee over the year and particular thanks must go to Upper Sixth student Kate Newbould, who has led the committee expertly through face to face and lockdown events. We are looking forward to working with the new team, led by Alice Howie in September 2021 and hope to see the School Walk back in the calendar for 2022!
