Pocklington School Foundation Careers & Business Network Virtual Event

You are warmly invited to our virtual Pocklington School Foundation (PSF) Careers & Business Network event, due to be held via Zoom at 6.00pm on Thursday 20 May 2021. The focus for the event is design, innovation and leadership and we are delighted to have as our guest speaker OP Professor Steven Kyffin (70-77), Pro Vice-Chancellor (Business and Enterprise) at Northumbria University and former Senior Director of Design Research and Innovation at Royal Philips Electronics.

Steven has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of design research and innovation and is a practised senior leader in the management of large complex organisations in both academic and corporate contexts. He was appointed as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Business and Enterprise) at Northumbria University in September 2016, having previously been Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Arts, Design and Social Sciences since September 2012 and Dean of Northumbria School of Design since January 2010.

Before joining Northumbria, Steven spent 12 years with Philips Electronics in the Netherlands, where he was Senior Director of Design Research and Innovation, responsible for Design Research world-wide, a member of the Philips Design Global Management Team, and headed up Philips Design's European Commission Research activities.

During the early part of his career, he worked on a wide range of assignments for several London-based design consultancies. In 1988 he started his own design company and in the early 1990s joined the academic staff at the Royal College of Art, becoming Director of Industrial Design from 1995-98.

Toby Seth, Headmaster of Pocklington School, will host a Q&A session with Steven to discover what led him into his chosen career, the opportunities and challenges he has encountered and an insight into business leadership and the importance of innovation in management and design. After the main Q&A session questions will be invited from the audience and, if time allows, there may be the opportunity to network in smaller groups using Zoom breakout rooms.

If you would like to join us for this event, please register your attendance with Rachel Dare via email to darer@pocklingtonschool.com as soon as possible, or by Monday 17 May at the latest.
Please note, limited places are available and will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. The Zoom link along with joining instructions will be issued the week before the event.

The Network is open to everyone in the wider Pocklington School community, including current and former parents, Old Pocklingtonians, current and former staff and supporters. Its aims are to help each other thrive in a highly competitive world and, by working together, to help instil the Pocklington School values in each other. If you haven’t already joined the Network, at this event you will be able to find out how to do so, as well as enjoying a great evening of networking.
