Scholarship And Fee Assistance

We have a number of academic and music scholarships available every year. These are financial awards granted on the basis of a pupil's academic or musical excellence.  In addition, we have a Sixth Form Sports Scholars Programme which is designed to nurture and support the sports men and women of the future.

Fee assistance, in the form of a bursary, is a financial award which could cover up to 100% of tuition fees. This fee assistance is confidential and strictly means tested. Further details can be found below.

Academic
Scholarships

Academic scholarships and exhibitions are designed to reward excellence and to celebrate exceptional talent for pupils joining Year 7, Year 9 and for entry into the Sixth Form.

Dolman Awards are open to all pupils entering the First Year (School Year 7).
Three Dolman Scholarships and three Dolman Exhibitions are available each year. Awards are made to the best performing pupils in the entrance assessment. The Scholarships are valued at 10% of the day fee and the Exhibitions at 5% of the day fee.

Gruggen Awards are open to all pupils entering the Third Year (School Year 9).

Three Gruggen Scholarships and three Gruggen Exhibitions are available each year. Awards are made to the best performing pupils in the 13+ scholarship assessment. The Scholarships are valued at 10% of the day fee and the Exhibitions at 5% of the day fee.

Hutton Awards are offered to the highest performing students at GCSE (internal and external).

Two Hutton Scholarships and two Hutton Exhibitions are available each year. Awards are usually offered to students achieving in the region of eight or more grade 8/9 (or A*). The Scholarships are valued at 10% of the day fee and the Exhibitions at 5% of the day fee. Tenure of all academic awards is for the duration of the pupil’s time at Pocklington School, subject to satisfactory performance and behaviour.

The Music Scholarship programme aims to recognise and develop musical excellence, develop performance and compositional skills and develop the necessary attributes to prosper as a musician.

A maximum of six music scholarships are awarded annually to the value of 5% of the day fees. A scholarship is tenable for the duration of the pupil's time at Pocklington School, subject to satisfactory musical progress, contribution, and behaviour.

The entry points with typical standards of achievement at time of application are:

Candidates will be assessed by performance and interview.  Auditions for the scholarships will be held in the Lent term. Pupils interested in applying for a Music Scholarship should contact the Admissions Officer Gemma Briggs by email

Please note that those candidates who do not yet study a second instrument will be expected to begin lessons in a second study in order to broaden their musical experience.
