Our boarding houses are overseen by experienced and committed staff who want the very best for each and every one of our boarders.
Boarding at Pocklington School is about community, friendships and fun
All our boarders are accommodated in our homely, welcoming boarding houses: Fenwick-Smith for boys and Faircote for girls. Our junior boarders, from Years 5 to 10, also enjoy their own space in the junior boarding hub, the Hive@Dolman, where junior boarders from both houses can spend time in an area just for them, with a programme tailored to their needs.
Each of our houses are managed by a resident houseparent, supported by a team of highly trained and caring professionals who understand the needs of our boarders. They are devoted to the personal wellbeing of every pupil under their care, both in terms of their academic development and overall welfare.
We actively encourage boarding families to maintain regular contact with their children and to visit. Each of our boarding houses is equipped with modern telecommunications. Skype, Zoom, and social media channels are used to positive effect to build confidence and to answer those important questions before boarders arrive. We are happy to help with transport arrangements for exeat holidays and weekends.
Although each house has its own unique identity, staff and engaging activities, there is a strong sense of community. Boarders of all ages often meet during meal times and activities to establish friendships that often become strong bonds that last well beyond their school years. Important occasions in the School calendar are celebrated, and the diversity of our boarders is acknowledged through food and cultural exchanges.
Boarding Houses
The Hive@Dolman
The Hive@Dolman is our exciting new boarding hub for junior boarders, up to and including Year 10.
Our junior boarders really benefit from living in our 11-18 houses at Faircote and Fenwick-Smith, but we also know how important it is for for them to have their own time and space. That's where the Hive@Dolman comes in. Each evening junior boarders spend time in an area just for them, with a programme tailored to their needs.
Our Hive@Dolman boarders will gather for prep/reading time and evening activities which will make full use of our wonderful sports facilities and grounds, as well as the relaxing social spaxes and new kitchen facilities in Dolman house. Juniors will study, learn new skills such as cooking, and celebrate special occasions together. It's all about building confidence, learning new skills and making friends.
