Pre-School Life

Pocklington Pre-School offers children aged 2 to 4 a place to develop, explore and grow kind hearts and curious minds.

Pre-School is the perfect place for children to start their educational journey

Our youngest children bring so much joy and we take every chance to give them the very best start possible. With entry from the start of the term in which a child turns 3, we provide excellence in early years education and ensure a smooth transition into Reception.

Our experienced team of early years staff, who care so deeply for every child, provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere with personalised learning and wonderful play-based opportunities, to ensure that all children are happy, confident and make the best possible progress.

Our Pre-School classroom sits within the Pocklington Prep School building, located on the central Pocklington School campus. Our imaginative learning programmes are designed to utilise all aspects of this carefully designed setting, which incorporates creative and expressionist zones with free-flow sensory play areas.

The bright, welcoming classrooms, with access to outdoor spaces for learning and play, alongside the School's purpose-built theatre, swimming pool, sports hall and acres of playing fields provide children with endless opportunities to build on their interests and talents from their very first days in Pre-School.

We offer an inspiring
and varied curriculum

Establishing a strong grounding in, and love for learning is one of the most important aspects of Pre-School life. Children participate in daily phonics sessions using the ‘Read, Write Inc’ programme, along with daily one-to-one, personalised learning and practical, multi-sensory maths. Children also have sessions in music and French, helping them to develop their academic curiosity from their very first days at school.

Children have time in the day for exciting and varied co-curricular options

During their afternoons at Pre-School, children participate in specialist activities with specialist teaching staff, such as Forest School, swimming lessons and the ‘Mind, Body, Soil’ programme. These activities make sure every day is full of excitment and discovery, encouraging children to enjoy the outdoors, be active and develop their enthusiastic and inquisitive minds.

We are pleased to offer government-funded childcare

Pocklington Pre-School is pleased to accept up to 15 hours government-funded childcare per week to make it easy for families to access our wonderful teaching and facilities.

The funding is for three- and four-year-old Pre-School pupils and can be used for a maximum of three hours a day over five days a week. These funded sessions run from 8.30am to 11.30am and can be used as part of a half or full day care. This offers flexibility of provision for children as they join the Pocklington School family.
