From the first day I arrived as a teacher at Pocklington School, I felt I could be myself. This is a place that is warm and smiley with young people who want to learn and an atmosphere that makes you feel you can have a good day. Our small classes are great for making connections allowing me to have a positive influence and help my students thrive. It is 15 years since I joined the staff and I am still smiling!

In theory, we teach through the syllabus. In practice, we talk about aliens, Ancient Greek philosophy, living in a simulation, Isaac Newton's nasty streak, how our mobile phones already contain photographs from the future, and whether or not God exists (He does).  Welcome to Physics, Lab 5, Pocklington School.

For me, Pocklington School has opened doors to a myriad of activities and experiences. For example, being a part of the debating society has allowed me to compete in a national competition - and given me confidence and public speaking skills along the way! Furthermore, never having been climbing or played cricket before, Pock has helped me discover a love for new sports through games sessions and matches. Finally, CCF has provided opportunities that I couldn't have found anywhere else, from Via Ferrata to axe throwing, during adventurous training. I can't wait to join Sixth Form and experience all that is on offer!

I have been at Pock since I was 4 years old, and there hasn't been a single day when I haven't been grateful to have been here. Pock is more than a school with great lessons, it feels like being part of a family where the teachers really care about you and genuinely want to help, not just in your work but in making sure you are happy too. For me, the best thing about being at Pock has been the way my days are filled with so many opportunities for sport, art, and all of the clubs on offer which make the days fly by. At Pock, you work hard, but you spend so much time with your friends out of the classroom, on sports teams, doing house activities and trying new activities, that sometimes it doesn't feel like school at all!
