Our GCSE results day at Pocklington School is a moment of celebration and immense pride as we acknowledge the significant academic milestone and achievements of a remarkable group of Year 11 pupils.

Celebrating our exceptional Year 11 pupils in 2025

Their academic successes are exceptional, with over 25% of all GCSEs awarded the top grade 9, and are a testament to their determiniation, reslilience and commitment to learning.

Notably, 15% of the cohort achieved all their GCSEs at grades 8 and 9, and an impressive 11% secured nine or more grade 9s, showcasing the breadth of this achievement across the year group.

Over half of our pupils gained at least one grade 9, and almost half achieved five or more GCSEs at grade 9, reflecting consistently strong performance across subjects.

Science results stood out in particular, with 100% of pupils achieving grades 9–7 in Chemistry and 85% reaching this level in both Biology and Physics. These outcomes highlight the school's ongoing excellence in STEM education.

Our commitment to academic breadth is also evident in the strong results in Latin. More than a fifth of the year group chose to study Latin, with 88% achieving grades 9–7 in this challenging subject.

Innyat Hashim, Head of Middle School at Pocklington School, shared his pride in the pupils' accomplishments:

“Many congratulations to all our Year 11 pupils on their excellent achievements. Their eagerness to learn, their willingness to take initiative and their strength in overcoming challenges place them in an excellent position for the next chapter of their education. Keep moving forward, aim high and hold on to the values that define what it means to be a Pocklingtonian.”

In addition to meeting the demands of their GCSEs, our pupils have actively participated in the diverse co-curricular activities at Pocklington School. This cohort has brought life, energy, and leadership to every corner of our community. From musical and sporting excellence to theatrical performance, technical innovation in coding, strategic brilliance in chess, and committed service in the Combined Cadet Force, they have embraced their opportunities with enthusiasm and purpose.

As they prepare for the next phase of their education, these pupils do so with a strong foundation of skills, knowledge, and values gained throughout Middle School. They have developed critical thinking skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and lead with integrity, all qualities that will guide them as they encounter new challenges and explore new opportunities.

Sixth Form at Pocklington School introduces students to greater freedom, academic depth, and an expanded range of enrichment and leadership opportunities. It is a time when students begin to refine their interests and shape their paths toward future careers, university, apprenticeships, and beyond.

Several pupils have shared their reflections on their time in Middle School and their next steps:

Jacob:
Moving into Middle School, I gained confidence I hadn’t previously discovered. It helped me express myself in the way I wanted, and it has led me to feel much more self-assured. The Middle School staff and pupils have always been supportive, and I have always felt safe here. Thank you, Middle School, for setting me in such good stead for the future!”

Rosie:
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Middle School, both in lessons and through the added bonuses of the many co-curricular activities and sports on offer, especially netball, tennis, and the house competitions! Since joining Pocklington School in Year 9, I have felt extremely welcome and have formed many strong friendships, thanks to the close-knit community that Middle School provides. The support shown by all the teachers has helped my confidence grow, as they consistently go out of their way to ensure I understand the material and feel prepared for the future. I’m really looking forward to what the Sixth Form has to offer. If it’s anything like my experience in Middle School, I’m sure it will be fantastic!”Page Image, news, academic, senior school

Lucy:
I've been at Pocklington for ten years now, and without a doubt, Middle School has been the highlight of my journey. The wide range of sporting opportunities, co-curricular activities like CCF, and memorable events such as House Drama have all played a big part in shaping my experience. They've given me the chance to be part of something special and form lasting friendships along the way. My friendship group has made Middle School very special. They always support me and make me smile and I can’t wait to start Sixth Form with them and see what new experiences await.”

Effie:
A lot changes between the ages of 13 and 16, when we are in Middle School. I truly believe nowhere could have supported me better through that journey. Middle School is where you are shaped as a person, where friendships thrive and interests emerge. You are right at the heart of the Pocklington School community. What has stood out to me most is the constant support and encouragement from the teachers and staff, which has inspired me to aim high and achieve both personal and academic goals. While I’m immensely sad to be leaving this part of my school life behind, I’m also incredibly excited to begin a new chapter in the Sixth Form.”Noah:
Since joining Pocklington in Prep School, I’ve experienced some of the best years of my life, both in sport and in the classroom. I’ve been supported every step of the way by friends and teachers, and I imagine that support will stay with me long after I leave. My time in Middle School has felt so short, but the memories I’ve made during this time are among the best I’ve ever had. Thank you, Pocklington.”
