Class of 2025 celebrate A level and BTEC results

This year’s outcomes reflect not only strong academic performance, but also the strength of character and determination demonstrated by the Class of 2025. Our students have embraced every opportunity to benefit from a holistic education, enriched by a co-curricular programme designed to nurture the knowledge, skills and attitudes essential for future success.

Tim Morris, Head of Sixth Form at Pocklington School, praised the students' accomplishments:

“I am incredibly proud of our students' fantastic achievements in their A level and BTEC examinations! These results are a testament to their hard work and resilience. They also reflect the unwavering support of families and friends, and the expertise, enthusiasm and commitment shown by our dedicated staff.
Beyond academic success, I am hugely proud of the exceptional young adults they have become. As they move on from Pocklington School to their next chapter, they do so with a wealth of transferable skills and personal attributes. I am confident they will go on to lead happy, successful and fulfilling lives.”

Following on from 2024, where Pocklington School was ranked number one for A level results in the East Riding, the Class of 2025 has achieved impressive results across a wide range of subjects.

This year's leavers are now ready to launch into their next adventures which include employment, apprenticeships, diverse and enriching gap years and further study. University outcomes have been hugely successful this year with 94% of students achieving places at their first or second choice university, including competitive courses at leading institutions.

Several students have shared their reflections on their time at Pocklington School and their next steps:

Freddie is thrilled to be starting his studies at The London School of Economics, reading Economics:
I am incredibly excited to begin this next chapter, not only because of the opportunity to immerse himself in the world-class academic environment at LSE, but also the vibrant city of London. Over my years at Pocklington School, I have aimed to take full advantage of the many opportunities available to me, such as playing first team rugby and in the Swing Band. Activities such as these, have helped me develop vital skills, all of which will serve me well at university and beyond. I am so grateful for the chance to have broadened my horizons and to grow as a person.”

Flora is looking forward to studying Biomedical Science at Sheffield University as well as meeting new people and living independently:
Although I have only been at Pocklington School for three years, it has given me countless opportunities and helped me greatly develop my self-confidence and shape who I am today. Throughout my time at Pocklington, I have enjoyed being involved in many co-curricular activities, especially first team netball and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, where I have been pushed to reach my full potential and have made life-long friends. Coming to Pocklington was the best decision I ever made, and I will always be grateful to the staff who have supported me, from joining the school in Fourth Year, and now with the transition to university."

Catalina feels lucky to have always known what she wants to do and is going to study performing arts:
I believe that pursuing a path in performance offers a wide range of possibilities for my future. The ability to stand up and talk to people and network is my strength. I am grateful that Pocklington has prepared me to do this. I have taken part in school theatre productions, lectern society, and music showcases, where I have built my confidence to put myself out there. As a student of psychology, English literature, and drama, I have really focused on understanding people and widening my knowledge of theatre, which are important for my craft. Being a prefect has taught me leadership, teamwork, and to unapologetically be myself. I have connected with students and teachers across the school, through my commitment and active participation. Pocklington is not just a school - it is a family. I look forward to September, but I really will miss my home at Pocklington School."

Tom is starting a degree in Sustainable Land with Business Management at Newcastle University, where he's excited to explore how environmental sustainability connects with business strategy:
During my five years at Pocklington, I’ve taken every opportunity to challenge myself, including my role as a digital leader in ICT, where I helped teachers and younger pupils, developing key leadership and problem-solving skills. My time at Pocklington has shown me the value of teamwork and stepping out of my comfort zone, which I know will be important at university. I’m incredibly grateful for the support of my teachers and friends, who have helped me grow into a motivated and responsible student. As I move on to this next stage, I feel ready to take on new challenges and make the most of the opportunities ahead.”

Charles has found the 14 years he has been at Pocklington School invaluable:
I have been supported academically by my teachers throughout my time at Pocklington, which has enabled me to develop skills and interests in many subjects. The wide range of co-curricular activities, such as CCF, have also helped my personal development. I have many happy memories that I can take away from my time at Pocklington as I move forward to study Rural Land Management at the Royal Agricultural University.A level pupils celebrate at Pocklington SchoolPage Image

Carys expressed her thanks to Pocklington School:
I will carry the skills I’ve learnt and the memories I’ve made with me for life. Some personal highlights include Lower School House Camp, CCF camps and field days, playing senior netball and being part of the prefect team. Pocklington School has given me countless opportunities to develop myself, and my public speaking and leadership abilities have improved no end. I know that these skills will be useful for me at university and beyond. I’ve also been stretched academically, and I’m looking forward to pushing myself even further at the University of Edinburgh next year, studying Biomedical Sciences. I am beyond grateful for everything Pocklington School has given me, and I feel prepared for university and beyond."Erin feels ready to take her next academic steps:
The wide selection of co-curricular activities, the superb teachers, and my amazing friends have contributed to making this a memorable and special experience. With the high-quality teaching and support for independent learning, I feel confident and prepared, both socially and academically, to start university. I am proud to be an Old Pocklingtonian, and I look forward to being able to give back to a school that has given me so much. Thank you for an amazing nine years at Pocklington!Ollie will be studying Politics and Economics at Newcastle University:

Over my eleven years at Pocklington School I have enjoyed the wide range of activities and opportunities that have been provided, particularly the opportunity to play rugby and cricket at a high level. As we bid farewell to the Class of 2025, we do so with immense pride in everything they have achieved - and great anticipation for all that lies ahead for our new Old Pocklingtonians.

This is my last cohort of Upper Sixth leavers, and I am proud of them on so many levels. The character and determination they have shown in achieving these results is commendable. They are ready now to move on to life after Pocklington and demonstrate to the world the qualities and personal growth that have been a hallmark of their time here. They have secured these outcomes alongside a myriad of other achievements – on the sports pitch, on stage, within the community and in supporting their peers. I know that they will go on to make a positive mark on  society and look forward to hearing more of their successes in the future.
