Pocklington School students celebrate A Level and BTEC success
Pocklington School students are celebrating their A Level and BTEC results today, with the Class of 2026 progressing to an exciting range of university, employment and gap year destinations.
Students achieved strong results across a broad range of subjects, with 67% of A Level results graded A*-B and 66.7% of students achieving at least one grade A or A*. BTEC students also performed strongly, with all outcomes graded at Merit or above, and 84% of grades overall achieving a Distinction or Distinction* (equivalent to A/A*).
Tim Morris, Head of Sixth Form at Pocklington School, said: “Results Day is always a special moment and I’m delighted to see our students celebrating the rewards of their hard work. They have shown real commitment to their studies and, just as importantly, have made the most of everything Sixth Form has to offer. It has been a privilege to see them grow in confidence and ambition over the past two years and I’m excited to see the different paths they now take.”
Becky Lovelock, Head of Pocklington School, added: “Today is about celebrating the individual achievements of every single student. At Pocklington, our students leave us with confidence, optimism and the life skills they need to thrive, whatever comes next. Our ambition is for every pupil to be Adventure Ready - equipped with the character and values to step into university, work and adult life with purpose and integrity. I am incredibly proud of this year group and all they have achieved in their time with us. We wish them every success for the future.”
96% of students have secured places at their chosen institutions, with students preparing to study a wide range of subjects at universities across the UK.
Among those celebrating is James Sweeting, who is looking forward to studying Agri-Business at Newcastle University, combining his interests in Agriculture and Economics. Reflecting on his time at Pocklington, James said: “Pocklington has given me everything which has allowed me to take this next step. My experience here, with my friends, playing sport and living here for years within boarding, is what has made my time at Pock so special. Pocklington’s support and advice towards me regarding different options I had post A Levels has also been invaluable, and I am very excited with the decision I have made today!”
Emily Jones is heading to Harper Adams University to study Veterinary Nursing with a placement year. Emily said: “I am excited to have a place at Harper Adams in September 2026, to study Veterinary Nursing with a placement year. Pocklington School has provided me with multiple opportunities, the South Africa Sports Tour being one of the most incredible. I leave School with many memories and amazing friends. I am grateful to the Sixth Form staff who have encouraged and supported me throughout my journey.”
Joe Girking is excited to start a degree apprenticeship in Supply Chain Leadership at Sheffield Hallam University. Joe said: “I wasn’t initially sure about going to university as I was keen to get straight into the workplace, but seeing a former Pocklington student follow this pathway inspired me. I’ve loved my time at Pocklington School, especially rugby and the friendships I’ve made, and the support from staff has been invaluable in helping me decide what I want to do next.”
